I write sci-fi adventure novels, and read sci-fi, fantasy, thrillers, mystery, urban fantasy, or whatever else stirs my interest, including a fair amount of non-fiction. My spare time is often spent hiking or Netflix-ing (Is that a word?).
Born in Texas, I lived out of state and out of the country for a time, but now I’m home once again. I’ve worked as a bookseller, a research library assistant, a military computer network expert, and many other jobs through the years. Experience is the lifeblood of a writer: sat in the back of a cargo plane during a tactical dive to avoid RPG fire (check); been invited to lunch in an undisclosed location by a CIA-connected colonel (check); adventure, disaster, elation, heartbreak (all checks).
In and out of university several times — history, computer science, and East Asian studies — I learned a thing or two, even a little Chinese. Eventually I settled into a position in international shipping and worked for twelve years, pursuing the writing craft in my spare time. After several early attempts in sci-fi, action/adventure, and thriller genres, I developed a character who felt compelling, and the Jake Mudd Adventures series was born.
